How to Get Your Kids’ School Events into Your Calendar

School calendars, newsletters, and paper notices can all become part of the family plan.

To get school events into your family calendar, subscribe to the school’s published calendar feed when one is available. For ParentSquare, use Explore → Calendar → Subscribe to get the link. For newsletters and paper notices, import a readable image into Haven and review the dates before saving.

Picture day, an early dismissal, and a field trip form can arrive in three different places. Haven AI Family Calendar brings compatible feeds and the notices you choose to share into one family plan on iPhone. Explore Haven, then start with your school’s source below.

1. Start with how your school shares dates

You don’t need the same setup for every school. One may publish a calendar subscription, while another sends a weekly newsletter. Use the source that actually contains the dates your family needs.

A calendar feed only includes events the school publishes there. A date mentioned in a post, email, or attachment may still need to be added separately.

2. Connect a school calendar link

If your school uses ParentSquare, follow the steps below to copy its subscription link and connect it directly to Haven. You can do the ParentSquare part on a computer, then paste the link in Haven on your iPhone.

ParentSquare: copy the subscription link

  1. Open ParentSquare in a web browser and sign in to your parent account.
  2. From Home, find Explore in the left sidebar and click Calendar. If Home shows a small calendar panel, open its View All link to reach the full calendar.
  3. Click Subscribe in the calendar’s top-right corner.
  4. In the confirmation, right-click “Yes, I’m Positive” → Copy link address. On a Mac, Control-click also opens the link menu. Copy the link rather than opening the confirmation button.

The calendar can include the school, class, and group events available to your account. Irvine Unified’s ParentSquare support guide shows the Subscribe and copy-link steps.

Haven: paste the link and connect

  1. Open Haven on your iPhone and go to Settings → Connections → ParentSquare.
  2. Tap Add a calendar.
  3. Tap Paste your schedule link and paste the full address copied from ParentSquare.
  4. Wait for Haven to read the feed and show the events it found.
  5. Select the child or family members the school calendar is for, then tap Connect.
  6. Open the family calendar and check a familiar school event against ParentSquare to confirm its date and time.

Haven checks this feed when you open the app. It can only bring in events published in the calendar; dates mentioned only in messages or attachments still need to be added separately. The full ParentSquare guide includes Google and Apple setup and troubleshooting.

ParentSquare app: add events to your iPhone calendar instead

If you want ParentSquare to add events to the phone’s calendar, its documented app route is:

  1. Open the ParentSquare app.
  2. Tap the three-line menu at the upper left.
  3. Choose Account → Preferences.
  4. Turn on Automatically add events to Calendar.
  5. Allow calendar access when your iPhone asks, then open Apple Calendar to check the events.

This phone-calendar route is separate from connecting a feed directly to Haven. It is documented by Irvine Unified and Stillwater’s ParentSquare FAQ. A calendar connected to your iPhone can appear privately in Haven; review and use Copy into Haven when an event belongs on the shared family plan.

School uses a different calendar?

There isn’t one menu path shared by every school website. If the school gives you an iCal subscription URL, follow the Google or Apple Calendar instructions. If it only provides a newsletter or PDF, use the image and text steps below. A one-time download is different from subscribing to a feed that can publish updates.

3. Add dates from newsletters and paper notices

A clear screenshot of the school newsletter can save you from entering picture day, the concert, and the book fair one at a time. A photo of a paper notice works too.

  1. Capture the dates, year, times, and relevant details clearly.
  2. Share the image to Haven from your iPhone, or choose it inside Haven. You can also paste the event text.
  3. Review the events it finds. Choose only the dates that apply to your children.
  4. Correct missing or ambiguous details, then save.

A readable dated permission slip or RSVP can also include a deadline for review. Check it against the original notice before relying on it. Haven does not scan your inbox or all your ParentSquare messages to find these dates; you choose what to send.

See the screenshot-to-calendar walkthrough. An imported image is a snapshot, so later changes need to be reviewed and updated separately.

4. Make the school plan useful for both parents

The date is a start. Add the details that keep the week from becoming a last-minute search: a sack lunch for the field trip, the concert location, or a reminder to return a form.

  • Assign the child or children involved, especially when schools have different schedules.
  • Keep notes and preparation checklists with the event.
  • Set reminders far enough ahead to buy supplies or finish a form.
  • Use daily and Sunday week-ahead briefings to review what needs attention.

You and your invited partner share the Haven family calendar through iCloud. An outside calendar already on your iPhone can appear privately in your own Haven view instead. If a date needs to enter the family plan, review it and use Copy into Haven.

Set up the shared family calendar together, then agree who will check new school notices.

5. Prefer Google or Apple Calendar?

A compatible subscription link can also be added to Google Calendar through its website’s Other calendars → + → From URL option. On iPhone, Apple Calendar has Calendars → Add Calendar → Add Subscription Calendar.

The ParentSquare Google Calendar steps and Apple Calendar steps show where to paste the address. Subscribing adds a source calendar; it does not automatically share it with a partner or add Haven’s preparation tools.

6. Know what updates and what doesn’t

Haven checks connected school feeds when you open the app. The school must publish a change to that feed before Haven can see it. Google and Apple manage their own subscription refresh timing.

Photos, pasted notices, and separate event copies do not continuously follow the source. If an urgent closure or time change arrives in a message, check the school’s announcement and update your plan. Keep ParentSquare for school communication and alerts.

For team schedules alongside school dates, use the kids’ sports-calendar overview.
